Product Information

When reusing DLT tapes, it is important that all data and formatting is removed completely. The V91 DLT/LTO tape degausser has a powerful degaussing magnet that removes all patterns, thus eliminating all data and formatting, leaving them completely clear and ready to reuse. Degaussing DLT, LTO and other magnetic media will ensure that subsequent recordings will be at their very best. Degaussing can extend the life of magnetic media such as DLT, which in turn delivers cost savings.

LTO degaussers such as the V91 DLT/LTO alter the magnetic charge on LTO tape cartridges. This process will erase the data stored on the tape and also erases the cartridge’s servo tracks, making the cartridge completely unreadable. Note: Some backup tapes may not be reusable after degaussing due to the servo track being erased.

For Erasing Cassettes and Cartridges the operator turns the security key on the front of the V91 DLT/LTO to the “On” position. Pressing the red “Power” button turns on the magnetic field. The operator then takes the media and passes it across the middle of the top surface on the V91 DLT/LTO from one side to the other in one slow and smooth motion. Turn the media through 90° and repeat the motion. Flip over the media and subject it to a third pass, turn 90° and do a fourth and final pass.

The media is now erased and ready for reuse if required.

The SDD Master is a fully automatic degausser.  Lift the perspex lid, insert the media into the caddie, close the lid and press the ‘Start’ button on the control panel. Media is transported into the degausser where the magnetic field is activated by a powerful pulse discharge. While inside the degausser, media is automatically rotated and a further two magnetic discharges are applied, ensuring complete erasure. The entire process takes approximately 75 seconds.

The processor controlled SDD Master continuously monitors the operation ensuring that the erasure cycle is completed. The operator is immediately alerted to any interruptions in the erasure cycle on the LCD control panel.

Data Destruction Auditor: The SDD Master’s unique Data Destruction Auditor records all essential information of the degaussing/sanitization process. Reports can be generated detailing key information such as media serial numbers, degauss force, date and time of erasure and operator details and used as evidence of degaussing. Barcode Scanner: The barcode scanner accessory allows you to scan the serial and part numbers from media, enabling you to speed up the data entry process.

NSA: The NSA is an agency of the US government which is responsible for protecting U.S. government communications and information systems. The NSA publishes guidance on the sanitization (erasure), declassification, and release of storage devices for disposal or recycling in the “NSA CSS Policy Manual 9-12, NSA/CSS Storage Device Declassification Policy Manual.” Within this, the NSA publishes the EPL-Degausser (Evaluated Products List – Degausser) which specifies the current degaussers that have been evaluated against and found to satisfy the requirements for  erasure of magnetic storage devices that retain sensitive or classified data. The SDD Master has been tested and evaluated by the NSA.

The UK Government Cyber Security Centre (Formally CESG) accepts that products on the NSA Degausser Evaluated Product List as meeting the highest level degaussing standard (TOP SECRET).

Many government agencies are required to manage their data security to detailed government specifications which would require them to buy an approved degausser. Safe and secure data disposal is critical within the military which is why the Department of Defense (DOD) also adheres to the guidelines outlined in the NSA CSS Policy Manual 9-12 for the destruction of classified material. In addition, if an organization is involved in managing highly sensitive or confidential information such as financial, medical, education, personal and legal information, they must be vigilant in how they deal with the disposal of such information and the use of an approved degausser would be highly recommended. 

Security of data is also a legal requirement under the UK’s Data Protection Act 1998 and the European Data Protection Directive 1995.

The DataGauss XL-LG has been designed with simplicity in mind. Releasing the catch, lifts the lid allowing media to be placed into the chamber. Closing the lid and pressing the ‘erase’ button on the control panel activates the charging of the powerful degaussing magnetic field. When the display says the degauss cycle is complete, the lid can be opened and the media removed. The entire process takes just 45 seconds.

Throughout the whole erase cycle the on-board processor monitors the erase procedure ensuring that it is completed correctly. The operator is shown erase progress and immediately alerted to any interruptions in the cycle by messages on the LCD control panel.

Barcode Scanner: The barcode scanner accessory allows you to scan the serial and part numbers from media, allowing you to speed up the data entry process.

The DataGone LG PLUS is a fully automatic, table top mounted degausser.

It comes integrated with our Data Destruction Auditor software  and a USB cable for connecting to a PC or laptop. Once connected, open the program on the PC and enter details into the Data Destruction Auditor’s report record screen. Details such as organization name, operator name, date & time and information pertaining to the media itself can be entered manually. Alternatively an optional bar code scanner is available for fast input of information such as media serial numbers. Information on the degausser model will be automatically registered within the Data Destruction Auditor report record screen by clicking the “Find Machine” button on the Data Destruction Auditor screen.

Once all information has been inserted, slide the media into the aperture on the left hand side of the unit. Click the “Destroy” button on the Data Destruction Auditor’s screen which starts the erase/destruction process. Progress is shown on the screen and once complete, the completed process is recorded on screen, confirming the date and time of the successful erasure/destruction. The user can then print an immediate record of the media’s destruction by pressing the print button on screen or export the logs as a CSV file.

When complete, the media is released and exits from the DataGone LG PLUS on the right hand side. The entire process takes just 9 seconds from start to finish.

Barcode Scanner: The barcode scanner accessory allows you to scan the serial and part numbers from media, allowing you to speed up the data entry process.

Label Printer: The Label printer accessory automatically print labels that can be stuck on the processed media giving details and confirming secure erasure.

The Datagauss LG Max is the most powerful, compact, continuous degausser for hard drives and backup tapes in the Verity Systems product range. Media that can be securely erased includes both hard drives that use perpendicular and longitudinal recording techniques, including 5000 Oersteds and all common backup tapes.

The erasure log software records all operating and degaussing information, which can be saved and printed, giving hard copy evidence of complete erasure for reporting and auditing purposes. The DataGauss LG MAX has been designed with simplicity in mind. Releasing the catch lifts the lid, allowing media to be placed into the chamber. Closing the lid and pressing the ‘erase’ button on the control panel activates the charging of the powerful degaussing magnetic field. When the display says the degauss cycle is complete, the lid can be opened and the media removed. The entire process takes just 15 seconds.

Throughout the whole erase cycle the on-board processor monitors the erase procedure ensuring that it is completed correctly. The operator is shown erase progress and immediately alerted to any interruptions in the cycle by messages on the LCD control panel.

Operation of the V660 HDD Evo could not be easier. The operator simply places the hard drive into the support on the top of the degausser, closes the cover and initiates the erase process by switching on the red “Power” button on the front of the V660’s control panel for 3-5 seconds or using the infrared remote control. The operator then lifts the cover, rotates the media a quarter turn (90°) in the support, closes the cover and applies the magnetic force for a further 3-5 seconds.

Following this, the operator lifts the lid and flips the hard drive over and applies the magnetic force again for 3-5 seconds. For the final 4th cycle the operator lifts the lid rotates the media a quarter turn (90°) in the support, closes the cover and applies the magnetic force for 3-5 seconds. The media is now completely erased.

The SV91M is simple to use and manually operated.

For erasing hard drives, the operator turns the security key to the “On” position and places the media on the top surface of the degausser. Pressing the red “Power” button turns on the magnetic field and the media is held in place for 3-5 seconds. Pressing the “Power” button turns off the magnetic field. The operator should then rotate the media 90° on the top of the degausser and repeat the process by applying the magnetic field for another 3-5 seconds. The media should then be flipped over and the process repeated making 4 degauss cycles in total. On completion of the fourth cycle , the media will be completely erased.

A two step process has also been set out by the National Security Agency (NSA) and Central Security Service (CSS) for the disposal of magnetic storage devices, including hard drives. They recommend that hard drives are sanitized (erased) with a degausser prior to the physical destruction of the hard drive itself.

It is this standard that all government agencies must adhere to and is now recognized by most organizations as the most effective and fool-proof way of disposing of hard drives effectively and securely.

Security of data is also a legal requirement under the UK’s Data Protection Act 1998, ensuring the complete removal of all data from redundant equipment is essential to maintain the security and integrity of data. In addition, many standards insist that the process of data destruction is fully traceable. Using a degausser to sanitize media provides a fully auditable procedure.

With safety in mind and to meet the latest ICNIRP Magnetic Exposure Guidelines, the SV91M’s field is concentrated near the top operational surface where the media is degaussed.
